Commissioned officers can check their pension details by providing the name and IC number. Personnel below the officer rank can access the PPO status by providing their name and regiment number.

The shift to the e-PPO system from the manual system is expected to minimise delays in pension disbursement and further revision as and when needed, the statement said. This initiative will also eliminate the occurrence of human errors in data entry at multiple levels

In order to further Narendra Modi government's Digital India-initiative, Principal Controller of Defence Accounts(Pensions), Allahabad has started issuance of electronic-Pension Payment Orders (e-PPOs) to the pensioners along with their Pension Disbursement Agencies viz., Banks, Defence Pension Disbursement Offices, Post Offices, etc. 

The service has now been extended to all defence pensioners including defence civilians. It began in the first phase for all Commissioned Officers and JCOs/ORs of Armed Forces from the month of October 2017. Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions), Allahabad, is the sole agency under the Ministry of Defence. It sanctions Pensions for the Defence Services, Indian Army, Coast Guard, Defence Research and Development Organization, General Reserve Engineer Force, Border Roads Organization, Military Engineering Services and other Defence organisations including Defence Account Department and Defence Civilians, a Ministry of Defence statement said.

The shift to the e-PPO system from the manual system is expected to minimise delays in pension disbursement and further revision as and when needed, the statement said. This initiative will also eliminate the occurrence of human errors in data entry at multiple levels.

The statement further said that the next step would be digitising pension documents received from 46 record offices and over 2900 Heads of Offices. This initiative by PCDA (P) will facilitate better implementation of OROP, the statement said.

e-Pension extend the benefit of e-governance to the pensioners. The aim of the scheme is to bring a positive deviation from the present system by minimising the physical movement of files and papers to minimise the processing time.

The e-governance system brings transparency in the system to make tracking and retrieval of records more effectively. The Narendra Modi government has since the very first day of coming to power has taken various steps to promote Digital India. The government is trying to make all the government services online. This initiative is another boost to the Digital India initiative.

Let us at least try and make few changes

Please check if your PPO contains an endorsement giving the name and age of the spouse and details of ordinary family pension. If it does not, at the earliest make out an application in triplicate and send it to the agency that had issued the PPO - PCDA (Pensions) Allahabad/ PCDA (N) through PDPA/ CABS. Make sure to attach all supporting documents and duly attested joint photograph as indicated in the specimen. Keep a copy of the application in the master folder that you will be making for the spouse for follow up action if necessary in case the endorsement is not received during your lifetime.

Procedure for issue of duplicate copy of pension payment order in lieu of lost one are contained in Para 5.1 and 5.2 of Defence Pension Payment Instructions 2005 and Para 9.1 of Scheme for Payment of Pension to Defence Pensioners by Public Sector Banks (Revised Edition 1987). According to which, if a pension payment order issued by the Pension Sanctioning Authority is lost, the duplicate copy thereof may be obtained by the Pension Disbursing Authorities from the concerned Pension Sanctioning Authority, on furnishing a loss certificate stating the purpose for the issue of duplicate PPO. Of late it is noticed that PDAs, while forwarding the loss certificate, do not furnish full details of their address along with legible official seal as well as full details of pensioner and the purpose of requesting for issue of duplicate PPO. 

In the absence of the above information’s there always occurs the delay in issue of duplicate copy of PPO, leading to complaints from pensioners. In view of the above, it is requested that all pension paying offices/ Treasuries/ pension paying branches/DPDOs under your jurisdiction may be instructed to furnish the following documents/information’s invariable while requesting the Pension Sanctioning Authorities for the issue of duplicate copy of Pension Payment Orders.
(i) Loss certificate duly stamped with legible official seal. 
(ii) Full details the ails of address of PDA viz Postal address with PIN code and state where PDA is situated. 
(iii) Full details of pensioners viz PPO No. and year of issue, the name of the pensioner, nature of pension etc. 
(iv) The purpose for the issue of duplicate PPO i.e.for payment purpose or otherwise. 
(v) When PPO is lost before first payment, a declaration from the pensioner that no payment has been received and a non-payment certificate from the PDA concerned should invariably be enclosed along with the loss certificate.
